Shaylee Mansfield on Instagram: "Yes, deaf discrimination can and does happen from a family member. This is a true story that my Deaf mom, raising two girls and once a babysitting pro, shared with me personally. Now, she’s sharing with you all about the discrimination she experienced from her own hearing uncle. #discrimination #americansignlanguage #ableism #signlanguage #deafexperience"

Shaylee Mansfield on Instagram: "Now that the “Feel the Beat” film is on @Netflix worldwide, I want to show the beauty of Deaf children across the globe signing “Feel the Beat” in their own language. Too often we are marginalized for “not being able to hear.” Today, we are here to celebrate the gift of being Deaf and sign language. To show the world what it truly means to feel the beat. And when the world doesn’t know how or want you to fit you in, don’t forget to keep dancing to you

Shaylee Mansfield on Instagram: "So many sounds around… sometimes Deaf people including myself go on without realizing we’ve left something on or running. Be it the water running or boiling over, leaving the TV volume way up, and even accidentally turning the alarm on! 🚨😳 Who ends up turning them off? The hearing person, if any, that’s with them. 😂 Or the Deaf person, only much later on. #deafculture #signlanguage #americansignlanguage #whatwouldidowithoutyou #deafcommunity"

Shaylee Mansfield on Instagram: "This is a very famous, hilarious game played by Deaf people for decades! The person behind becomes the hands telling a story, joke, or whatever. The person in front must do their best to do the story justice using their facial expressions ONLY. The result? Tons of mistakes and laughing! 😂🤣😅"

This might upset or anger some people, but listen up… Asking Deaf people to teach ONLY cuss words in sign language? Not cool. Sign language is a rich, full language - not just for swearing. Let’s learn meaningful signs instead. 🤝 And FYI, we Deaf people absolutely do cuss! | Shaylee Mansfield

Shaylee Mansfield on Instagram: "All of our lives…we’ve been asked to practice our speech, to fix how we pronounce certain words, and if we have an ‘accent’. There are Deaf people who loathe speaking, that’s ok. There are Deaf people who are comfortable with speaking, that’s also ok. Some are not very good at it. Some are good. Here’s a video of my Deaf family speaking different words - a living proof that we’re all different in how we ‘speak’. We can laugh at ourselves and make jokes out of it

Shaylee Mansfield on Instagram: "Not every Deaf person does this, but my Deaf parents told me when I was little to NOT walk with cars behind me. Many Deaf people have passed away due to a car hitting them from behind. This is why I walk facing the opposite traffic so I can see vehicles and stay safe."

Even we throw something at them! 🔴🧦 Yelling loudly that the entire neighbor can hear.💥Flashing the lights.💡If on FaceTime or Zoom, waving closely to the camera does the trick. 👋 And so much more! Dear Hearing people, will you always be hearing? You have to see this! By 2050, close to 2.5 billion people will have some type of hearing loss. What are you waiting for? Go learn sign language before it’s too late. Check out @lingvano and get a head start. 😉 It’d be so cool to see around ⅓ of the world signing in 2050. 🌎 🤟 | Shaylee Mansfield

What kind of question is this: “If you were born Deaf, what language would you think in?” 🤦♀️ 2 grown men who have NO experience with Deaf people are acting like they’re are the experts. 😏 To be able to hear has nothing to do with intelligence and the ability to think. Deaf people think like everyone else does, in the language they use. It’s more embarrassing that there are millions of likes and views for a video that is spreading harmful misinformation about Deaf people. @fahaadk_ I hope you

As you grow older, it becomes much harder for us to wish you a happy birthday knowing the memories of little you drift further away. Where do we start? You’re a kid at heart yet a old soul - quite the juxtaposition. Your smiles and laughter are the purest. Your heart knows no bounds. You shine brightly in whatever you do and even shine brighter for others. Though you came into this world unexpectedly as an “accident” baby, you were and still are the luckiest surprise. We are forever starstruck a

Given the current situation with coronavirus, people are relying on technology more than ever. There is an explosion of content being created on social media from posts to stories to live chats. This means MILLIONS of videos are not captioned; therefore, not accessible to over 400 million Deaf and hard of heari
